AGRA: A student of a prominent local school in Aligarh, Daksh Rathore, 16, who had secured 93.6% marks in the recently declared class 10 CBSE results, allegedly killed himself since he was upset at his performance. A note recovered from his room stated: "I am sorry Papa-Mummy, I have let you down."
Talking to TOI, his father, Amit Nirmal Rathore, a lawyer, who is a resident of Green Park apartment in Aligarh, said, "My son was a good student. He was upset at having not scored the kind of marks he was expecting but we didn't know that he would take this kind of drastic step. We are extremely devastated."
Additional SP Puneet Dwivedi said, "A note was recovered from the room of the child. It matches his handwriting. He had made a few calls including to his parents before he was found hanging in his room. The laptop and mobile phone that he was using are being examined. Primary investigation suggests that this is a case of death by suicide."
Mahua Khera police station SHO Vijay Singh added, "At 10:40 pm on Monday, around two hours before he was found hanging, Daksh had ordered food online. At 12:30 am, he had his last conversation, which was with his parents, who were returning from a trip to Mussoorie. The parents returned at 1:30 am and found the house locked from inside. Later, Daksh was found hanging with a saari attached to the ceiling fan in his room."
The boy's father said, "Daksh often used to say that he would make me proud as his picture would appear in newspapers among toppers of the board exam. I used to remind him of this for motivation. His photo was not published, and he was upset over not being able to achieve his desired score of over 95%." On Tuesday, the boy's family donated his eyes at the Aligarh medical college. "Daksh was an extremely sensitive child and got disturbed seeing people in need and suffering. He had said that he would donate his eyes to enlighten someone's life and we are fulfilling his wish," Rathore said.
