Ponda: The Mhaisal Dam at Panchawadi in Ponda taluka ran dry on Wednesday evening. The WRD has arranged to supply potable water from the Opa water works to the people dependent on the rese-rvoir’s water.
Panchawadi and parts of Shiroda village are dependent on its water.
Water division executive engineer Nivruti Parsekar said they have replaced a valve at Paniwada-Borim to tra-nsfer water from Opa to Panchawadi on Thursday, and this arrangement will continue until the Mhaisal dam gets suff-icient stock.
Water levels in many dams have been dipping due to the scorching heat and lack of pre-monsoon showers.
On May 25, the Mhaisal dam had just 4.5% water storage and WRD chief engineer Pramod Badami had said it was sufficient to cater to the drinking needs for a week. The areas will be supplied water from the Opa waterworks, and people need not worry, he had said.
The storage capacity of the Mhaisal dam is 436.8ham (hectare meter).
The 10 million liter per day (MLD) water treatment plant at Gauliwada-Panchawadi draws around 10 MLD water for treatment and supplies it to the villages. Meanwhile, a pipeline broke down at Corlim, affecting water supply to several parts of Tiswadi.
