GURGAON: A 23-year-old man, a barber by profession, was arrested in Faridabad for allegedly raping a minor girl at knifepoint when she took shelter in front of his shop on May 29 to save herself from rain.
The accused - identified as Praveen, a resident of Gurgaon's Ghangola village - had earlier been booked in a case under the Pocso Act, Faridabad police spokesperson Sube Singh said.
The girl's mother, who filed a complaint, said her daughter was on her way back home from school on May 29 afternoon when she was stuck in the rain. The girl took shelter under the awning in front of the shop.
Praveen, who was also standing there, dragged the girl into his shop and raped her at knifepoint, the complainant said.
Praveen also threatened the minor, she said.
DCP Ballabhgarh Rajesh Duggal ordered a quick investigation into the case. On Wednesday, a police team of Adarsh Nagar arrested Prveen from his shop and recovered a knife from the shop.
"Police have registered an FIR under relevant sections of the Pocso Act, IPC section 506 (criminal intimidation) and the Arms Act. On Wednesday, he was produced before a court and sent to judicial custody," Singh said.
Praveen, the officer said, is out on bail in another case registered in the Ballabhgarh area under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
