ULHASNAGAR: An FIR has been filed against former minister and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Jitendra Awhad in Ulhasnagar in Maharashtra's Thane districts for allegedly hurting sentiments of Sindhi community.
The FIR was registered on Thursday on the complaint of BJP’s Ulhasnagar city president Jamnadas Puraswani, who belongs to Sindhi community.
In his complaint, Puraswani alleged that recently NCP's Ulhasnagar district president Pancham Kalani had organised a review meeting of his party workers in Ulhasnagar which was addressed by former minister Jitendra Awhad. At the time of review meeting, former minister Jitendra Awhad guided his workers during which Awhad allegedly insulted Sindhi community by making controversial remarks.
Puraswani said that video of his speech has went viral on social media, and due to this, a lot of anger has been generated among the followers of Sindhi community in Ulhasnagar city and across the country.
Acting on Puraswani's complaint, the local Hill Line police has booked Awhad under section 153-A (Promoting enmity between two groups), 153-B(Imputations, assertions, prejudicial to national -integration)295-A and section 298 of Indian Penal Code.
Meanwhile, Awhad posted a video from the meeting and claimed, "I visited Ulhasnagar to meet party leader Pappu Kalani. However, to defame me, a morphed video of my speech was circulated in the entire Sindhi community."
"Who is provoking the Sindhi community by playing wrong videos for two days?. A false FIR has been lodged against me. I want to ask the government against whom a case will be filed when both morphed and original videos are available. A case cannot be made based on a false statement and false evidence before knowing the truth. I had respect for the Sindhi society, it is there today and will always be there," Awhad added.
