Man gets 12-yr RI for daughter's rape in Aizawl

AIZAWL: In a most horrific and reprehensible crime, a 46-year-old man was slapped with a 12-year rigorous imprisonment sentence by the Special Court (Pocso Act) for repeated rape and impregnation of his own daughter, in Aizawl on Wednesday.
A fine of Rs 5,000 has also been imposed on him, failure to pay which would lead to 25 days of simple imprisonment. The court convicted him under the Pocso Act, 2012 on Monday.
His first attack on her was on August 5, 2013, when she was barely 14, while they were collecting firewood. Repeated attacks on her eventually resulted in her pregnancy and a baby in September 2015.
The attacks finally ended when his wife filed an FIR against him with the Saitual police station on November 22, 2018. He was arrested and jailed without bail.
"The detention period undergone by the convict as an under trial prisoner is set off," ruled Special judge Vanlalenmawia. Being in prison for almost five years without bail, he is to undergo seven more years of imprisonment according to the judgment as the detention period undergone by the convict as an under trial prisoner has been set off.
