Karnataka: Lokayukta raids 57 offices, houses of 15 govt officials

BENGALURU: Acting on complaints, Lokayukta police on Wednesday raided offices, houses and other premises of 15 government officials.
The raids were carried in Bengaluru, Tumakuru, Haveri, Shivamogga, Mysuru, Mandya, Chamarajanagar, Koppala, Udupi and Mangaluru.
Lokayukta said the raids were simultaneously carried out in 57 places since Wednesday morning, and the operation is still under way.
The officials were HJ Ramesh, chief engineer (director, technical), Bescom corporate office (Bengaluru); TV Narayanappa, deputy director of factories, Karmika Bhavan, Bannerghatta Road, Bengaluru; SD Rangaswamy, secretary, Kittanahalli gram panchayat, Bengaluru Rural; Pramod Kumar NG, executive engineer, BBMP, Bommanahalli; N Muttu, chief accounts officer, MUDA, Mysuru; J Mahesh, superintending engineer, Mysuru City Corporation; A Nagesh, assistant executive engineer, MUDA, Mysuru; M Shivashankara Murthy, senior sub-registrar, Nanjangud; Shankara Naik, junior engineer, RDPR engineering sub-division, Shikaripura (Shivamogga); K Prashant, engineer, Karnataka Neeravari Nigam, Upper Tunga Project, Shivamogga; BR Kumar, labour officer, Udupi; AM Niranjan, senior geologist, Vikasa Soudha (Bengaluru); Vagish Basavanna Shettar, project engineer, Nirmiti Kendra, Haveri; Jaranappa M Chincholikar, KRIDL, Koppal and CN Murthy, executive engineer, KIADB, Mysuru.
In Tumakuru, sleuths raided the house of executive engineer Murthy of Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board at RT Nagar. Lokayukta SP Vali Basha said they found Rs 8 lakh cash and 1kg of gold jewellery.
Principal caught accepting cash for promoting boy
Lokayukta sleuths on Wednesday arrested the in-charge principal of Basaveshwara Boys' High School, Rajajinagar, after he was caught accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 from a student's mother.
V Narayana demanded the cash from the mother of a boy, whose class 9 results were withheld for official reasons. Narayana promised to promote the boy to class 10, police said.
