Woman beaten up in public over extra-marital affair in Dahod

VADODARA: Dahod district police registered an offence and nabbed three persons after the videos of a woman being beaten after being disrobed went viral on Wednesday. The police traced the incident to the Margala village in Fatehpura taluka of the district.
The video that went viral showed a group of men standing around a woman and one of them pulling her saree. The woman was allegedly beaten and dragged on the ground in the videos. In both the videos, one man is even seen dancing. The videos also reached the police that identified the village and rushed a team there.
The policemen could identify three persons who were seen in the videos. They were detained and taken to the police station. An offence was registered at the Sukhsar police station regarding the incident.
According to the police, those responsible for beating up the woman were from her husband's family. The woman who was married to the man from Margala for about 10 years has four children with him. She, however, eloped with a man from a nearby village and started staying with him for about a year.
"The woman and her paramour had gone to Chanasma where they stayed together. They came back to attend a wedding after being asked to do so by the paramour's mother," said Dahod superintendent of police Balram Meena.
The estranged husband and his family came to know about the woman and her paramour coming to the nearby village and rushed there. They brought the woman to Margala where she was beaten up to punish her. The woman registered an offence regarding the incident and was also counselled for the trauma she faced.
