MYSURU: In November 2022, three domes (one big, and two small) had sprung up on the newly constructed bus shelter opposite JSS College on Mysuru-Nanjangud national highway under MLA Local Area Development Fund, leading to a controversy.
Mysuru MP Pratap Simha and then BJP MLA of Krishnaraja constituency, SA Ramadas, locked horns over its architecture, embarrassing the then BJP-led state government. Following warnings by the MP, two smaller domes were removed.
Now, at one of the under-construction bus shelters in the same constituency, the same design has been followed with the installation of a single dome with kalasha.
According to the residents of Chamundipuram, at the under-construction bus shelter near Chamundipuram Circle, a dome has been constructed with a kalasha on it. "But there are no minor domes on either side, unlike the ones at the bus stand in Krishnaraja segment on Nanjanggud Road," explained a local resident.
MLA vs MP sagaWhen the Nanjangud Road bus stand controversy erupted, Ramadas and heritage experts justified it as Mysuru-style architecture, while Simha slammed it saying it was looking like a mosque.
Common designs are followed in the construction of bus stands in other constituencies. "However in Krishnaraja constituency, these new exteriors are adopted which do not serve any purpose, and also increases construction cost," rued another resident.
The dome controversy had brought a bad name for the city. "Why it is not changed even after the government, and the people's representatives are changed?" he asked.
Newly elected BJP MLA T S Srivathsa said objections were raised earlier for the two small domes along with the bigger one. "I will check the architecture of this bus stand, and the dome," he told TOI.
