Storage Solutions 500 GB HDD, which to buy

Hi, I tried buying one from Seagate through Flipkart. Luckily I noticed that the seller got very bad reviews, sending used, scratched products.

I am not able to find many good 500GB options on Flipkart. It is for my old PC which has OpenMediaVault. Is Consistent a good brand? It gets listed every time I try Flipkart. I believe it is a 3.5 inch old day style HDD. thanks.

Because they do not exist.

Once you start looking for 1TB models you get all the major brands.
My personal recommendation - Western Digital Blue 1TB 7200 RPM

Just buy a used one from the marketplace here. Individual users would pack it better than amazon/flipkart.

500gb is as good as 100gb these days. Better get a 1tb.

500GB are out of production long time, what ever are available are refurbished drives, considering Price/Gb its not practical to go for 500GB, get 1 GB instead .

Note: i have personally thrown away 2 WD Blue and will never ever recommend them (its my personal opinion) instead i would suggest Seagate if you don't need high transfer rates , go for IronWolf if you need high speed drive, if you have money to spare you can get a SSHD which has best of both SSD and HDD.

HDD - WD is very good, also seagate is fine

What? A SATA drive is a SATA drive. It's a standard. It'll work with any capacity currently available in the market be it 1TB or 100TB as long as it's a SATA drive.

No major companies are manufacturing 500GB HDDs anymore. Only sellers are consistent, Matrix and other such brands who sell old Seagate and Wd harddisks refurbished in a new packaging. That's why they have bad reviews. If you want 500gb sata storage in a tight budget I would suggest crucial bx500 or silicone power SSDs. You can consider purchasing 1Tb 7200rpm HDD too.

I am ok with buying a 1 TB Seagate or WD HDD. I was not sure whether it will work as a replacement for my current 500GB HDD ( working ). It was built in 2014 and in those days people used to talk about the maximum capacity of a HDD per motherboard.

Any sales offer I can wait for in the near future on Flipkart? I am in no hurry.

This got me intrigued. Closest to this I could find is the motherboard being limited to legacy BIOS which only supports MBR partitioning. Even that seems to support up to 2.2TB.

If there's any such limit, I think you could find it in you motherboard's specifications.

Thanks all. Hopefully, I can get a good deal on a 1 TB HDD. Anything I should be worried about? I see the WD blue, green etc types are there.
