2023 French Open, Iga Swiatek reaches third round: Key stats

Women's singles world number one Iga Swiatek has advanced to the third round of the 2023 French Open after defeating Claire Liu in straight sets. Swiatek won the match 6-4, 6-0. Earlier in the first round, she had overcome Christina Bucsa 6-4, 6-0. It was another solid performance from the Polish international, who is aiming to win her third Roland Garros crown. Swiatek owns a win-loss record of 30-6 this season. She has already claimed two titles, winning the Qatar Open and Stuttgart Open respectively. Swiatek started the season by losing in the fourth round of the Australian Open. She lost in the Dubai final, besides also going down in the summit clash in Madrid. She lost in the Indian Wells semis and Italian Open quarter-finals.

Swiatek now has a 23-2 win-loss record at Roland Garros. She won the title here in 2020 and 2022 respectively. Swiatek, who is a three-time Grand Slam champion, has a 56-13 win-loss record overall.

Swiatek served one ace and made two double faults. Her opponent had zero aces and zero double faults. Swiatek clocked a 66% win on the first serve and a 54% win on the second. Notably, she converted 6/8 break points. In terms of the head-to-head record, Swiatek now has a 3-0 cushion over Liu. Her previous win came at 2023 Indian Wells.

As per WTA, the 143-ranked teenager is the youngest player to reach the third round here since 15-year-old Sesil Karatantcheva made the 2005 quarter-finals. She is the seventh player in the past 30 years to reach the third round before turning 17.

23rd seed Ekaterina Alexandrova overcame Anna-Lena Friedsam 6-2, 6-0. 22nd seed Donna Vekic was overcome by Bernarda Pera 3-6, 6-4, 6-3. 14th seed Beatriz Haddad Maia prevailed 6-2, 5-7, 6-4 versus Diana Shnaider.
