Thiruvananthapuram: The KSEB has decided to collect a surcharge of 10 paise per unit from the consumers from Thursday. Earlier there were reports that even though the regulatory commission had permitted to collect the surcharge, the KSEB will not be imposing it for the time being. But on Wednesday night the KSEB issued an order stating that the surcharge will be collected from June 1.
Already the KSEB is collecting a surcharge of 9 paise per unit. With the new order, the total surcharge collected from the consumer will become 19 paise per unit. The Kerala State Electricity Regulatory Commission had earlier issued an order fixing the power surcharge that can be collected by the Kerala State Electricity Board without prior permission from the former at 10 paise per unit. If the surcharge is more than 10 paise in any month, a special application must be submitted to the Commission.
