16 villagers held for beating two men to death

Rourkela: As many as 16 people were arrested in Sundargarh district on Wednesday for allegedly beating two men to death on Tuesday.
The deceased were identified as Ranjit Magada (50) of J Raiboga village and Radheshyam Raxa (25), a resident of Patrapara. Ranjit’s son Roshan (19) was also assaulted, garlanded with shoes and paraded naked, later locked in a room.Ranjit and Radheshyam had allegedly assaulted one Ashwini Kishan on Sunday due to past enmity.
On Monday night, a group of villagers intercepted the motorcycle in which Ranjit, Roshan and Radheshyam were travelling. They beat up Radheshyam while Ranjit managed to flee. Radheshyam died in the wee hours of Tuesday. In the morning, the group caught hold of Ranjit and beat him up, killing him on the spot. Roshan was then assaulted and paraded naked in the village.
“We have arrested 16 villagers for killing the duo. We are further investigating the case,” said H K Behera, sub-divisional police officer, Sundargarh.
