Ashok Gehlot and his former deputy
Sachin Pilot on Monday decided to fight the upcoming assembly elections unitedly, leaving it to the party high command to take a decision on the sticky leadership issue in the state.
After the meeting ended late Monday night, Congress general secretary K C Venugopal asserted that the two have decided to join hands for the crucial polls ahead and that the party leadership had come up with a "proposal" which has been accepted by both
Gehlot and Pilot to settle once and for all the festering leadership tussle. He though refused to divulge the details. He said the two leaders have agreed to "deliver" Rajasthan for Congress party in the impending polls.
"In this discussions, we have decided to fight elections unitedly. We will win the elections in Rajasthan. Both Ashok Gehlot and Sachin Pilot have unanimously agreed to the proposal. Both are in agreement that Congress has to go together. It is a strong state for Congress," Venugopal said.
Rahul Gandhi was present during the meeting held at Congress president
Mallikarjun Kharge's residence along with Rajasthan PCC Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa besides Venugopal. The discussions with Gehlot began at 6pm, while Pilot jointly shortly after 8pm.
