Mangaluru: Former mayor Kavitha Sanil of Congress said that the alleged atrocity on wrestlers Bajrang Punia, Sakshi Malik, Vinesh Phogat and others by Delhi police under Prime Minister
Narendra Modi was a ghastly episode in the history of India.
Sanil, a karate and boxing champion, told reporters on Monday that the wrestlers are demanding the arrest of Wrestling Federation Of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Singh, who is accused of sexually harassing female athletes. “I am also an international athlete. The nation, national flag and medals are important for us. Athletes give utmost respect to the nation and national flag. However, those who protested against sexual harassment have been assaulted and the nation was insulted as
the national flags in their hands were thrown on the ground,” she said.
“Though an FIR has been registered, the accused has not been arrested only because he is a BJP MP. Isn’t this a mockery of justice? The government should understand that those who held protests are athletes who upheld the dignity of our nation. BJP will repent for the tears of these female athletes,” Sanil said. Mahila Congress leaders Jacintha Vijaya Alfred, Appi, Chandrakala, Shanthala Gatti, Kavitha Vasu, Shashikala, Sabitha Misquith were present.
