PM Modi flags off North-East's first Vande Bharat train, highlights work with 'service spirit'

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said the eastern and the North-Eastern part of India have benefitted the most from infrastructure development highlighting how Nagaland got its second railway station after a gap of 100 years. He said the rail connectivity in the North-East is proof of the government's speed, scale and intention.
Virtually flagging off the first Vande Bharat Express train of the North-East from Guwahati, the Prime Minister said while the government's thrust to provide rail connectivity to the region is an example of work with a "service spirit", the British had laid rail networks to Assam, Tripura and West Bengal only to "exploit natural resources" of the region. The 18th Vande Bharat Express will connect Guwahati with New Jalpaiguri and the journey will take five-and-a-half hours.
