Thiruvananthapuram: A central team appreciated various water preservation activities in the district during a visit to assess works of Jal Shakti Abhiyan here on Monday.

Manoj Kumar and central groundwater board scientist Adithya Sharma were there in the team that visited Jal Shakti centre at the collectorate.
The team also visited various parts of the district to evaluate the measures taken to preserve water.
District collector Geromic George, district development commissioner Aswathy Sreenivas and other officials held a discussion with the central team.
The team urged the district administration to follow models similar to the joint venture ‘Neerurav’, a joint venture project of Haritha Keralam Mission and
Mahatma Gandhi national rural employment guarantee scheme (MGNREGS) to preserve water in the district.
The team also appreciated the panchayat authorities of Manickal, Kollayil, Kattakada and Maranalloor for the projects implemented to preserve water.
The team assessed water preservation projects at Vellanickal Paramukal, Vellanickal LPS and Koppam LPS. These projects were implemented as part of the ‘Puzhayozhukum Manikkal’ project, which is monitored by the groundwater department.
The Amrit Sarovar project at Kollayil, Kattakada Jala Samridhi project, etc, were also visited by the team.
Jal Shakti Abhiyan nodal officer Sudheer A S, MGNREGS district engineer Dinesh Pappan, technical expert Sandy S R, junior hydrologist Dr Vidya GS and junior geophysicist Sabin A were also part of the team.
