Ethnic conflict has deepened the crisis in Manipur after the Meitei and Kuki communities are in no mood for reconciliation. The violence-hit state may witness more trouble if the Centre fails in taking action in quick time. The nearly month-long ethnic conflict in Manipur has polarised the state. In the past, the two communities had engaged in conflicts stemming from territorial and identity disputes. However, the violence witnessed since May 3 has been the most severe in their troubled history, resulting in the loss of over 100 lives and leaving numerous individuals injured. Although both sides express a desire for an end to hostilities, there is an underlying sentiment that they prefer not to coexist. Union Home Minister Amit Shah is present in Manipur to assess the prevailing situation. As part of his visit, he engaged in meetings with delegations from different civil society organizations in Imphal. Furthermore, it is expected that he will undertake a visit to the violence-affected district of Churachandpur.
