Thiruvananthapuram: Cantonment police arrested on Monday the member of a panchayat in Kollam for spreading fake information on social media about the plus-two results published by the education department.
Nikhil Manohar, 26, of Parppidam at Ambalathum Bhagam, Poruvazhi, telecasted on his
YouTube channel ‘We Can Media’ that the plus-two results published by the education department were withdrawn due to the errors and the minister for general education V Sivankutty apologised for the same as well. The video went viral and it was shared by thousands of people within a minute.
However, Nikhil said that he only shared a news article published in a prominent daily and minutes later he shared a corrected video online. Nikhil, the ward member of Ambalathum Bhagam of Poruvazhy panchayat, stated that there were errors in the results of some students.
Cantonment police registered a case against him under sections 468, 471 and 511 of the Information Technology Act, 120 of the
Kerala Police Act and also 468 for forgery for the purpose of cheating. “The accused has been remanded after producing before a court. The accused created a fake video to mislead and cheat the public,” said police.TNN
