Mandya/ Chikkamgaluru: Mandya MP Sumalatha Ambareesh on Monday distributed three-wheelers for 10 physically challenged persons through MPLAD funds to mark the birth anniversary of her husband and former minister Ambareesh.
She also visited Doddarasinakere village in Maddur, the hometown of Ambareesh, and took part in a function organised by their relatives and villagers.
Speaking to reporters, Sumalatha urged Congress government to fulfil the promise on poll guarantees. “People have elected a government with a full majority and it is the responsibility of the government to ensure guarantees are met,” she said.
Commenting on the allegations made by defeated Melukote candidate Indresh of BJP, Sumalatha said she had no purpose to match-fix with another party’s candidate. “I had made my stand clear with the party brass with respect to the Melukote assembly constituency, to which they had also agreed. If things have to be made clear, it is between Indresh and the party. Blaming me for the defeat has no meaning,” she added.
When asked about next year’s general elections, Sumalatha said she would first concentrate on her son’s wedding, and then think of those elections.
Meanwhile, former MLA C T Ravi has accused Congress leaders of giving reasons to implement pre-poll gurantees. Ravi, also national general secretary of the saffron party, told reporters that Congress leaders should implement the guarantees promised before people react angrily. “Congress leaders had promised of giving benefits to each and everyone before going to the polls,” Ravi added.
