Kanpur: A youth, who had gone missing from Luckow on Sunday, was recovered from Rampur on Monday.
A missing complaint was filed by his family wherein they alleged that he had been kidnapped for ransom. As per the preliminary findings it seems that the youth had staged his kidnapping, said the police.
According to the report, Suraj Bhan (23), son of Ramsharan Rathore of Thathiya village in Kannauj, is preparing for the civil services exam in the Kakadeo area of Kanpur.
His family members said that he had gone to Lucknow on Sunday to appear for the exam when he was kidnapped.
They said that they had a WhatsApp call from the youth’s mobile number for ransom. Suraj’s brother sent Rs 50,000 as the first installment of the ransom to the student’s account after which the kidnappers threatened that they would kill the youth if the complete ransom was not paid.
As soon as the complaint was made, the Rawatpur police started searching for the miscreants by registering an FIR for kidnapping and extortion.
With the help of surveillance, the police recovered the student from Rampur railway station on Monday.
DCP West Vijay Dhul said that the student has been recovered by a police team of Rawatpur police station.
“Preliminary findings indicated that the student had staged his kidnapping. The police team is on the way to Kanpur. He will be questioned once he will reach Kanpur to corroborate the same,” he added.
