Youth tied to tree, thrashed on suspicion of theft in Kaushambi

PRAYAGRAJ: A 22-year-old youth was tied to a tree and thrashed on the suspicion of theft in Atsaray village under the limits of Saini police station of Kaushambi early Monday, police said.
The video of the incident has also gone viral on social media. Upon being alerted, a team of Saini police rushed to the spot and rescued the youth-- Naseem of Fatehpur. They said Naseem was caught red-handed while trying to escape after stealing cash and other valuables worth over Rs 20,000 from a house at Atsaray village on Sunday night.
Locals alleged that the family members of the house, who returned from a wedding party, found the house hold items scattered and cash and valuables missing. As they raised an alarm, the spotted the youth attempting to escape. He was caught by the other family members and villagers. They tied him to a tree and thrashed in full public view.
Some villagers informed the police which rescued the youth and brought him to police station for quizzing.
Additional SP (Kaushambi) Samar Bahadur said: “Police have been probing the incident thoroughly and action would be initiated accordingly.”
