‘Manjappai’ vending machine installed at district collectorate
Coimbatore: Collector Kranthi Kumar Pati inaugurated a vending machine for ‘manjappai’ (yellow cloth bag) at the district collectorate here on Monday.
The machine was installed by the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB).
It has a capacity to store 300 cloth bags. Each cloth bag costs 10.
It was one of the 10 machines promised by state environment and pollution control minister Siva V Meyyanathan in April.
Assistant collector (training) Soumya Anand, TNPCB district environment engineer (Coimbatore north) K Ravichandran and other officials were present on the occasion.
Similar vending machine will be set up at the Gandhipuram bus stand and uzhavar sandhais at Singanallur, Cowly Brown, Mettupalayam, Sulur, and Pollachi a TNPCB official told TOI.
Five machines have been allotted to the Coimbatore corporation.
