Balangir: A four-year-old boy of Nuapada district, who suffered critical burns after he accidentally fell into a vessel of hot rice pudding prepared for a village feast on May 25, succumbed to his injuries in a hospital in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, on Sunday night.
The deceased was identified as Bikash Herna, son of Hutesh Herna, of Ranimunda village under Khariar police station limits.
Sources said that on May 25, the boy was playing with his friends when he slipped and fell in the vessel containing freshly cooked kheer. He was rescued by the villagers and rushed to Khariar Mission Hospital for treatment.
“The patient sustained 90% burn injuries and required intensive care. His condition was critical,” said a doctor. When Bikash’s condition deteriorated, he was shifted to a hospital in Raipur for advanced treatment.
“Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation to ascertain how the accident happened. His body was sent for autopsy,” said an officer. Bikash was the son of Hutesh’s second wife. Hutesh, a teacher, had married for the second time after the death of his first wife from whom he has a daughter.
