Ex-gratia to kin of DK murder victims: Speaker to speak to CM
Mangaluru: Assembly speaker U T Khader said that he will speak to the minister concerned and chief minister Siddaramaiah with regard to the requests made by the kin of those who died in communal murders last year.
While Siddaramaiah has agreed to retain Nuthana Kumari, wife of slain BJP worker Praveen Nettaru, in government job, demands for compensation and jobs also are being made to the kin of slain Masood of Bellare, Fazil of Mangalapete, Jaleel of Katipalla and Dinesh of Kanyadi.
Saramma, mother of Masood B, who was hacked to death in Bellare, met the speaker and demanded justice. “The previous government has not paid heed to our grievances. Now, we have hopes in Siddaramaiah government. I have sought an ex-gratia of Rs 25 lakh from the government. I also request the government to provide job to me or my children,” Saramma told reporters.
To a query, he said the government will ensure administration as per the Constitution of India. “People can live harmoniously if the government works like this. The Constitution insists that a government should treat people without showing disparity. The government will not allow disparity and injustice to anyone. The state will ensure justice to those who are deprived of it. The system will ensure that those who commit crime will be punished severely. I will ensure that the rights every individual and benefits they deserve are delivered,” he said.
On communal disturbances on the coast, the speaker said there is a need for a society that relies on love and trust. “There is a need for eliminating fear from society. It is the responsibility of the government, religious leaders, and organisations. Guidance of leaders from various castes and communities is essential to preserve unity in society,” he said, citing the example of Adichunchanagiri Mutt seer who urged leaders to stop raking up ‘Uri Gowda-Nanje Gowda’ issue.
