PRAYAGRAJ: If you are denizen of the Sangam City and wish to plant a tree next to your house, a useful helpline number has been issued exclusively for this purpose.
The Prayagraj Smart City authority have issued a toll-free number, 1920. Anyone who is willing to plant a sapling of the tree of his or her choice, in front of their house can dial this number and the forest department will approach the individual concern and plant the sapling. The entire cost including the sapling, the cage around etc will be incurred by the forest department and the Smart City authority.
The plan has been envisaged by the Prayagraj Smart City for the greenery and pollution free environment of the city and an amount of Rs three crores will be spent on the same. Out of this amount Rs two crores will be for the forest department which will plant the saplings and Rs one crore will be spent on developing the Miyawaki Forest. The forest department will also provide tree guards for the trees.
According to Manager (technical), Prayagraj Smart City Project, Sanjeev Kumar Sinha, "This scheme is different from the traditional tree plantation campaigns, being run by the government departments, as this time, it is not the department but local resident who will give his or her consent to plant sampling".
Saplings, under the 'Free Tree Scheme', will be planted after taking the opinion from the people of the city as they will be the custodian of the tree.
Special attention will also be given to the trees being planted in this scheme as emphasis has been laid on planting native species including Peepal, Pakad Imli, Amaltas and flowering plants like Kusum and Kachnar. There will be an attempt by the department to try and plant the same species of tree in a given road or street but if anyone is wishing for some other plant or tree, their wish will be fulfilled, says the official.
