BHOPAL: Union minister for forest and environment Bhupendra Yadav will visit Kuno National Park on June 6 to assess the progress of Project Cheetah. A team of the newly constituted steering committee will visit Kuno on May 31 for a review.
This comes in the wake of the deaths of three adult cheetahs and three cubs in the past two months. Yadav, who was in Bhopal on Monday, acknowledged the hard work of staff involved in caring for the cheetahs and expressed confidence in the success of the project.
Highlighting the need for additional forest guards and foresters at Kuno, he emphasised the importance of both infrastructure and human resources. He expressed concern about the spread of "misleading information" regarding the project and stressed the importance of providing accurate information to the public.
Officers selected from among the team involved in the conservation and management of cheetahs at Kuno will be sent on a study tour to Namibia and South Africa as part of Project Cheetah, Yadav said. The 20 cheetahs have been translocated from these two countries. Yadav held discussions on the project with CM
Shivraj Singh Chouhan, state forest minister Vijay Shah and other officials.
