NOIDA: A businessman battling cancer was allegedly cheated of Rs 1.3 crore by a couple in Noida on the pretext of investment. An FIR was registered on Saturday at Sector-63 police station and police have started an investigation.
Alok Maheswari, a resident of Muzaffarnagar, told police that the accused, identified as Rajeev Arora and his wife Preeti from Ghaziabad were known to his wife.
Rajeev, who introduced himself as a builder or property dealer, and his wife formed a strong rwith the Maheswaris after a few visits.
The accused offered Alok good returns against an investment in the business. Maheswari gave the money in 10 installments.
"The accused offered the victim a good profit against an investment in the land business. After several requests, the victim agreed to it. Then, Maheswari gave the amount in 10 installments between December 13, 2011, to March 4, 2012. The accused had promised to return the money with double the profit by 2017 end. Whenever the victim contacted the accused, they gave a fresh date to return the money. Now, the accused have stopped picking up calls from the victim and even refused to meet or talk. Now the accused is threatening to kill if Maheshwari demands money," FIR said.
Amit Kumar Mann, SHO of Sector 63 said that based on the complaint, an FIR has been registered against the accused under sections 420 (cheating), 406 (Punishment for criminal breach of trust), and 506 (Punishment for criminal intimidation) of the IPC. "An investigation is under way and we will nab the accused soon," he said.
