LUCKNOW: Over 2.1 lakh children below five years of age were administered polio drops on the first day of the pulse polio campaign launched in the city on Sunday. The campaign aims to reach 7.33 lakh children in six days. Health workers will visit homes from May 29 to June 2 to provide missed doses.
The campaign was earlier inaugurated by district magistrate Surya Pal Gangwar at Virangana Avantibai District Women's Hospital, where he flagged off the campaign by administering two drops of the polio vaccine to a child.
He said, "Although India is polio-free, there is still a risk from neighbouring countries to spread the disease, so every child below the age of five years must be administered with polio drops."
Meanwhile, CMO Dr Manoj Agarwal said that the polio prevention medicine can prevent lifelong disability. District Immunization Officer Dr M K Singh mentioned the collaboration of various departments.
