“Goa being a tourist destination, visitors want to have a nice time and that often involves consuming a lot of alcohol. We ask visitors who have consumed alcohol to stay away from the sea. Our lifeguards who are stationed on the beach spot potentially dangerous situations and ask intoxicated persons not to venture into the waters. Some agree and some don’t. However, the lifeguards are trained to tackle such sensitive situations on ground. IRB - Goa police has now taken a more proactive role in deterring intoxicated tourists from entering the waters, who are also fined,” says Navin Awasthi, CEO at Drishti Lifesaving.
Sheryl Afonso e D'Souza, a clinical nutritionist, believes that this is a great time to cool- off but there needs to be proper care and responsibilities that need to be taken so that one doesn’t get dehydrated. “Picnics by the beach, rivers and waterfalls are anticipated ‘cooling-off’ times; hence, it would make sense for one to carry along ‘cool’ foods. Stocking up on rehydrating beverages is essential as being in the hot outdoors can cause dehydration that often goes unnoticed,” says Sheryl Afonso e D'Souza, clinical nutritionist. She points out a list of Do’s and don’ts.
