Weston McKennie’s dad bizarrely includes RIP Harambe tweet in message about Leeds
Weston McKennie's father's message about Leeds bizarrely included a tweet about Harambe's death.
The United States international was signed by the Whites in January on loan from Juventus.
After their relegation from the Premier League, it has since transpired that Leeds will not take up the buy option to sign the midfielder permanently.
It means McKennie will return to Juventus, where his future remains unclear.
In total, the 24-year-old made 20 appearances for Leeds where he managed a single assist and seven yellow cards.
But his father tweeted his thanks to Leeds for their support, though it appears he accidentally quote-tweeted a post about Harambe's death.
John McKennie said: "All the best to LUFC! For those who supported Weston in a hostile environment you have my respect!
"For those who failed to remember it’s a team sport you live to fight another day."
Oddly, the post was made in response to a tweet from Dexerto which posted on the 16th anniversary of Harambe's death.
The gorilla was infamously shot dead after a child fell into his enclosure at Cincinnati Zoo in 2016.

Why he was included in McKennie's father's tweet is unclear though likely it was accidental.
Nevertheless, the tweet has since gone viral as a result, in true twitter fashion, with users equally baffled.
One reply read: "Well said John, RIP Harambe, gone but never forgotten."
Another said: "Mr. Mckennie I think you quoted the wrong tweet."
And a third replied: "What does harambe have to do with this?"
Leeds were thrashed 4-1 at Elland Road by Tottenham on the final day of the Premier League season.
Though, with Everton winning against Bournemouth, it did not matter what result the Whites got as they would have been relegated anyway.

Sam Allardyce was parachuted in with four games to attempt to pull off one of the most miraculous escapes in recent history.
But he managed to get just a single point out of a possible 12, a 2-2 draw against Newcastle, losing to Manchester City, West Ham and finally Spurs.
Leeds were joined by Southampton and Leicester in the drop-zone, who will all be playing in the Championship next season.
