4 held for killing Sena shakha pramukh who ran matka den

ULHASNAGAR: In a breakthrough in the murder of Shiv Sena pramukh Shabbir Shaikh Shaikh (45), the Thane police have arrested four out of six accused.
On Friday when Shabbir was busy with his matka (gambling) business at Jai Janta Colony, Vikram with his associates reached at his gambling den where they first threatened other players and asked them to leave the place, then caught hold of Shabbir and stabbed him atleast 20 to 25 times with knife and fled.
The arrested accused include Vikram Kavthankar (26) (the main accused), Dinesh Kavthankar (23), Prashant Tayde alias Salad (24), and T Borade (23).
The police said a team of at least eight senior police inspectors in zone 4 alongwith the crime branch were on a lookout for the accused. At first the crime branch unit 1 arrested Dinesh from Thane late Sturday. Following this, API Harshal Rajput 's team from Vithalwadi police station nabbed three other accused in Buddha Vihar area in Ulhasnagar.
Assistant commissioner of police Motichand Rathod, Ulhasnagar zone, said, "As per the information received, Vikram and Shabbir Shaikh in the past had a quarrel over money. Recently, Vikram had asked for Rs5,000 from Shabbir's brother Firoz, which he did not give. Thereafter, Shabbir allegedly beat up Vikram, following which, Vikram and his friends killed Shabbir".
Majority of the arrested accused have previous cases of assault and theft registered against them.
As per sources, 10 days ago when Shabbir had beaten up Vikram, the latter had lodged a complaint with Hill Line police but no action was taken against Shabbir.
