Disturbed by friend's death, man jumps into his pyre, dies
AGRA: A 42-year-old man, who was disturbed by the death of his childhood buddy, jumped into his friend's burning pyre on the banks of the Yamuna on Saturday. He suffered 90% burn injuries and died later on the way to hospital in Agra, reports Deepak Lavania.
ASP, Firozabad, Kumar Ranvijay Singh, said on Sunday, "Ashok Kumar Lodhi, 44, was suffering from cancer and died on Saturday morning. His last rites were held and his friend Anand Gaurav Rajput was among those present there".
Kumar added: "When people started leaving the cremation site, Rajput suddenly jumped into the pyre. By the time he could be pulled out, he had sustained serious injuries".
The two had been inseparable since childhood, said Rajput's elder brother. "Both went to the same school and they even got married on the same day. Lodhi was an expert drummer (dholak) while my brother used to accompany him with the cymbals (manjeera). They were often invited to perform at social events," he added.
Lodhi was diagnosed with cancer two years ago. Rajput contributed to his medical expenses. Lodhi had spent for the wedding of Rajput's eldest daughter. Lodhi is survived by two sons. Their children also go to the same school.
