Ludhiana: Khanna police booked two women for allegedly running illegal IELTS (International English Language Testing System) centres at their houses. The accused have been identified as Simranjeet Kaur of Dehru village and Meenu Chopra of
Krishna Nagar in Khanna.
Khanna SSP Amneet Kondal said that the action was part of a drive against illegal IELTS centres in Khanna. She added that they received information about the centres being run illegally in Khanna, after which teams were formed to identify such centres.
The SSP said that Simranjeet Kaur was found to be running SK IELTS Centre and Meenu Chopra was running MeenuIELTS.com illegally. She added that a case was registered against Simranjeet under various sections of
Punjab Travel Professional Regulation Act and under Section 420 (Cheating) of the IPC as well as Punjab Travel Professional Regulation Act against Meenu Chopra at City Two police station in Khanna.
DSP Khanna is investigating the cases.
A senior police officer said that documents, including registration certificates submitted by IELTS centres to the Khanna Police have been sent to the district magistrate’s office for verification and action in case of contravention of rules.
Khanna Police has also advised parents of students preparing for IELTS, to enrol their children only in institutions verified by the Punjab government.
