BHUBANESWAR: The Puri police on Sunday seized assets worth around Rs 3 crore owned by a man and his son, who were arrested on May 3 on charges of storing marijuana worth over Rs 60 lakh and planning to sell the narcotic drug to tourists, mostly foreigners during Rath Yatra next month.
"We formed three teams and raided various locations to trace the properties of Bijay Kumar Pani and his son Satrujit. We succeeded in seizing their movable and immovable assets worth about Rs 3 crore. They had acquired the properties from the sale profits of Ganja trade. Legal process is being initiated for confiscation of the assets under the NDPS Act," Puri superintendent of police Kanwar Vishal Singh told journalists.
The seized properties included four plots in Gopinathpur, two plots in Kapileswarpur, three plots in Sipasarubali, one four-storied building in Gopinathpur, a double-storied building in Gopinathpur, one double-storied building in Kapileswarpur (all in Brahamgiri police station area) and one double-storied building in Andalasingh under Kanas police area. Besides, two cars and a costly bike have been seized.
According to the SP, this is the second such major seizure by Puri police after the attachment of the properties of another drug dealer to the tune of Rs 1 crore in March last year.
"We have created a database of the offenders booked under the NDPS Act. All police stations have been asked to track their movements after they come out on bail," the SP said.
