Three of family hurt after man tries to burn down house in Odisha's in Balangir district

BALANGIR: A woman, her mother and brother sustained burn injuries after a youth set their house on fire at Radhakrishnan para under Lathore police station limits in Balangir district on Saturday.
The woman is undergoing treatment at Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital, Balangir, while her mother and brother are admitted to Khaprakhol community health centre. “We detained the accused Swathik Das for interrogation and he is likely to be arrested,” said Jyotirmaya Bhukta, sub-divisional police officer, Patnagarh.
Police sources said the accused was in a relationship with the woman since last couple of years, when they were working at a hospital in Bargarh.
The woman got a government job. She had been residing at Lathore in a rented house with her family.
On Friday, the accused had some issue with the woman and he decided to take revenge. On Saturday afternoon, Das came with a jar of petrol and sprinkled it on the house through the skylights and set the house on fire. The family locked themselves up in the toilet. Though the mother and brother escaped with minor burns, the woman’s condition is critical.
