A mosquito site was detected at the estate last year
Margao: With the monsoon season fast approaching, the Margao industrial estate is under scanner for ‘possible outbreak of vector-borne diseases’ as a mosquito-breeding site was found at the industrial estate this time round last year.
An official from the Curtorim Primary Health Centre informed that “we are monitoring the industrial estate. Besides having awareness programmes for industrial estate workers on prevention of vector-borne diseases, inspection was held at the industrial estate and measures were suggested to prevent any kind of water-logging.”
The official said, “We found one unit releasing wastewater in the open drain and warning was issued to it to ensure that no wastewater is discharged in the drain and that it needs to make provision to discharge wastewater within the premises.”
Meanwhile, the health department has issued notices to scrapyards to ensure that no waste is stored outside their respective sheds which will result in water accumulation and breeding of mosquitoes. Last year the department had found large scale mosquito-breeding sites of scrap material.
