Mysuru: After free movie tickets were offered for college-going girl students by Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP, Mysuru district unit), a flex requesting the public to take their daughters to ‘The
Kerala Story’ movie was put up. The flex that was put up by unknown persons at Chamundipuram Circle in Krishnaraja constituency has been removed.
The flex in Kannada read: “Dear devotees, take your children to temples and also take them to the movie, ‘Kerala Story’. The first will protect culture, and the second one will save your girl child’s life”.
Local corporator MV Ramaprasad said he is not aware who installed the flex, but the same was removed on Saturday. “If I had prior information, I would not have allowed anyone, including city corporation staff, to remove it. I’m also planning to watch the movie soon,” he told STOI.
Earlier, VHP Mysuru district unit had come up with a free ticket offer for college-going girls to watch the movie. VHP district unit chief BS Prashanth said they sponsored free tickets for around 450 girl students to create awareness.
Meanwhile, activists alleged that such activities are part of right-wing propaganda. “Girls going missing is not limited to Kerala alone. Exploitation and harassment of women are reported from across the country, including Gujarat. Through this movie, religion is shown in a bad light,” the activists claimed.
