COIMBATORE: A two-day conference on the performance of arthroscopic rotator cuff repair (ARCR) surgery and techniques for prevention of shoulder injuries among athletes commenced here on Saturday.
The conference, “Series-1 Symposia”, was conducted by Ortho One Academy. On the first day of the conference, live surgeries and demonstrations, including ARCR, were performed by experienced orthopedic surgeons from India, France, and Nepal, providing insights into basic to advanced rotator cuff management. More than 300 delegates from Germany, Uzbekistan and India attended the conference.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. David V Rajan, the organizing chairman of the conference, said, “There is a great yearning among young orthopaedicians to learn about arthroscopy-assisted rotator cuff tears. Hence we wanted to focus on the fundamentals. Also, 75% of the shoulder arthroscopy involve rotator cuff tear.”
Dr. M Shyam Sundar, the organizing secretary and a consultant at Ortho One, emphasized that the modality of the academy was to observe, learn, practice, and serve better. He further talked about digitization of the academy so as to make it accessible and approachable to all orthopaedists and physiotherapists.
Athletes, coaches, physios, and trainers will be taking part on the second day of the conference, where prevention of shoulder injuries and advanced methods of treatment will be discussed.
