MEERUT: Hapur police on Saturday arrested a group of 15 people, including 12 women and three men, involved in an alleged honey-trap racket operating through an escort service. The scam was exposed when the gang attempted to extort money from a timber trader in Hapur.
Superintendent of police (SP), Abhishek Verma, said the racket was being run from the Adarsh Nagar colony and Jasroopnagar areas of the city. "The women enticed customers and engaged in physical relationships with them at their homes. They recorded videos of these encounters and later blackmailed the victims, demanding large sums of money under the threat of filing police complaints," the SP said. According to police sources, the sex racket operated from residential colonies within the city, and those arrested include men from Hapur and Meerut. The women involved were from Nepal, Meerut, Ghaziabad, and other cities. Local residents claim that the illegal activities had been ongoing for quite some time.
