Woman harassed in KSRTC bus

Thiruvananthapuram: A 29-year-old female nurse was harassed by a person in a moving KSRTC bus near Neyyattinkara on Friday night.
Neyyattinkara police have arrested Ranjith, 32, of Kaviyoor near Kanjiramkulam, in connection with the incident. Ranjith was remanded after he was produced before a court on charges under Section 354 for outraging the modesty of a woman and 354-A (1) for sexual harassment by physically contacting a woman by unwelcome and explicit sexual overtures.
Though Ranjith’s relatives said he was under treatment for depression and produced a certificate to the police , police said that he will not be given any consideration on this ground. The accused and the woman boarded the bus from Thampanoor KSRTC stand. When the bus reached Vedivachamkovil, the accused, who was sitting on a seat behind the woman, touched her leg. When she resisted his move, he touched her shoulder. She soon approached the conductor, and her relatives were informed.
The relatives blocked the bus at Neyyattinkara and Ranjith was restrained.
Meanwhile, the staff of the bus informed police and the accused was soon taken into custody.
