Ranchi: Continuing the tirade against the Centre, national chairman of the OBC wing of AICC Captain Ajay Singh on Saturday lashed out at the saffron camp and its lawmakers questioning their silence over Droupadi Murmu, the first tribal woman to be the President, being “ignored” by Prime Minister
Narendra Modi over inauguration of the new Parliament building.
Modi will formally inaugurate the multi-crore building on Sunday. As many as 20 opposition parties including the ruling JMM in the state, have announced to boycott the ceremony claiming that the President being the highest constitutional body should have inaugurated it and not the PM. “President, Vice-President are above PM in the constitutional hierarchy but they aren’t even invited, leave aside getting it inaugurated by them. Because our PM doesn’t want to miss any occasion to be in limelight,” alleged Singh.
“Congress MPs have written to the Centre to boycott the ceremony. Why are BJP MPs silent? Just sometime back they were boasting about tribal identity of the President embracing the highest office during Presidential polls, but their words and actions don’t match,” he said.
Singh was in the capital as part of the party’s nationwide drive to post questions to the PM under their campaign ‘9 saal, 9 sawaal’. State party president Rajesh Thakur accompanied him.
Accusing the Modi government of incompetence, Singh posed questions regarding several issues including demonetisation, inflation, joblessness, law and order and foreign policy. “We want answers from PM on the burning issues the country has been facing since the last nine years since he came to power. However, he and his government continue to remain silent. We will continue to ask,” he said.
BJP on the other hand snubbed Congress of ‘petty’ politics and accused the grand old party of demeaning Parliament. BJP’s leader of opposition and former CM Babulal Marandi said, “Congress is known for double-speak. It is the same Congress which vehemently opposed Droupadi Murmi by propping a separate candidate against her in President’s polls. Now, they are playing cheap politics to boycott the Parliament building’s inauguration, which is the temple of democracy. It is clear, Congress doesn’t care about democracy.”
