PUNE: A 26-year-old woman techie was allegedly duped of Rs7 lakh by online scamsters, who posed as policemen, and claimed that her Aadhaar card was used by four criminals.
The incident occurred on April 18 after which the woman registered a complaint with the Chatushrungi police on Friday.
According to the police, the victim got a call from a man, who claimed to be a representative of a courier company. "He told her that a parcel she had sent was suspected to be of drugs and the police were investigating the matter," inspector Ankush Chintaman of the Chatushrungi police said.
Chintaman said when the victim refused to have sent any parcel, the caller asked her to speak with a 'police officer'. "The second scamster, while posing as a police officer, asked the victim to download a video calling application and share an image of her Aadhaar card. The woman obliged," he added.
"The man posing as a police officer claimed to investigate her bank account for which he asked her to transfer money. She accordingly transferred Rs7 lakh," Chintaman said.
