HYDERABAD: The soaring summer heat has brought about a significant spike in chicken prices in May this year. At present, the price of skinless chicken stands at ₹243 per kg, while live chicken is priced at ₹147 per kg.

Similarly, the rate for live chicken, which was ₹133 per kg on May 1, has now increased by 10%.
Boneless chicken has also witnesses a 4% rise, climbing from ₹440 to ₹460 per kg.
Experts explain that the poultry industry in the state suffered a setback due to unseasonal rains in late April, coupled with an ongoing heatwave where temperatures soared above 41° Celsius in Hyderabad. "The sudden change in weather affected the survival rate of chickens on poultry farms, and the demand remains high," said Ameen Basha, a vendor at Karwan meat market. Given the relentless heat, it is anticipated that prices will further rise in the upcoming days with no relief in sight.
