Silchar: The court sentenced Nepal Roy, a shopkeeper of Silchar, to 20-year rigorous imprisonment (RI) for raping a 13-year-old girl. On Friday, Cachar district special judge (Pocso) Tasfia Hossain announced the sentence.
The incident took place in November 2021. On November 9, the girl’s mother filed a complaint against Nepal (38) at a police outpost, saying her daughter has been kidnapped.
But after a few days, Nepal appeared on his own with the girl. When the police took the girl into their custody and questioned her, she said she had gone to visit her relative’s house in a village in Karimganj. As Nepal is also familiar with the relatives, he had also gone there. After spending a few days in that house, Nepal brought her back to Silchar.
According to the girl’s statement, by the time they reached Silchar, it was almost night. So, Nepal took her to a hotel where he raped her. The next day he took the girl back to her house.
After listening to the statement of the girl, the police submitted the chargesheet to the court after completing the ancillary process of the investigation. The verdict found Nepal guilty under Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012 (Pocso) and sentenced him to 20 years’ RI and fined Rs 5,000. In default of fine, he will have to serve another two months in prison.
Nepal is known to be married and has a son.
