NAVI MUMBAI: A 27-year-old builder from Panvel has been defrauded of Rs 1 lakh by two cyber crooks, including a woman, who had offering him huge returns in an online investment scheme.
As per the FIR, last month, while the builder Vivek Gharat was searching for investment schemes on the messaging app, Telegram, the fraudsters identified as Rekha and Vishal Sharma provided him with a fake website, where he was made to fill his personal details and they opened an account for him via Telegram.
Thereafter, Gharat was made to invest Rs 1,000 and within 15 minutes his Telegram account showed balance of Rs 1,620. Thus, gaining his trust, he was made to investment a total of Rs 1 lakh in three installments for which his account showed balance of Rs 2.20 lakh. As he was unable to withdraw and transfer the money from Telegram account to his bank account. Gharat realised that he was conned by the duo fraudsters and lodged a complaint with the Panvel taluka police station.
