Cuttack: A special Pocso court here on Saturday sentenced a 41-year-old man to 14 years of rigorous imprisonment for raping a 14-year-old girl in 2014.

Ashok Kumar Pahi also convicted Rajani Naik for having “committed an offence of cheating, deceitfully cohabitating with the victim inducing a belief of lawful marriage”.
The judge imposed a fine of Rs 16,000 on the convict and directed for payment of the amount to the rape survivor. He also awarded a compensation of Rs 4 lakh to the girl.
The trial judge relied on 10 witnesses and 18 documents, including the medical examination report of the girl, Special public prosecutor Ramesh Mohanty said.
The incident occurred on February 20, 2014. The trial was taken up based on an FIR registered after the rape survivor filed a complaint the next day. The convict was arrested on February 22, 2014, but released on bail on June 20, 2016.
