Kanpur: Impressed by the visitors gallery of Green Park stadium, deputy chief minister Brajesh Pathak termed the cricket museum a heritage. Inaugurating the newly constructed book cafe here on Saturday, Pathak said the stadium had a rich history and it would soon have the pride of holding an international match and said he would discuss with officials ways to make it happen. Divisional commissioner Raj Shekhar and deputy director sports Mudrika Pathak, who were present at the inauguration of the cricket book cafe, apprised the deputy CM about the cricket history of Green Park. After looking at the memorablia, he said, “The visitors gallery will prove a significant link for the young generation to know the rich cricket history of the stadium as well as of the city.”
He said newspapers headlines as well as player’s jerseys and signed bats and balls displayed in the gallery were a legacy. The deputy chief minister also viewed a short documentary of Green Park’s 75 year old history. District magistrate Vishakh G Iyer, president Chess Federation of India

Pathak later tested his batting skills on the virtual pitch and commented that playing on it felt just like live cricket and inquired about the software used in it.
The police force present at stadium gave him guard of honour and trainee player Harshita welcomed him. Later, talking to mediapersons, he said with the initiative of Khelo India, youths were getting a better platform in sports. The system was being updated with appointment of coaches at state level, while government was providing opportunities of jobs for sports persons.
