Margao: The Guirdolim gram sabha on Sunday decided to hold an extraordinary gram sabha on June 4 to discuss the decision of the railways to permanently close down the level crossing at Chandor.
The gram sabha was informed that the panchayat had not received any communication from the railways about the permanent closure of the railway crossing earlier this month.
Sarpanch Sonia Fernandes said that based on media reports, the panchayat body passed a resolution at the monthly meeting and communicated to the government.
The villagers then resolved to hold an extraordinary meeting to discuss the matter at length next Sunday.
Further, the gram sabha also resolved to utilise Rs 50 lakh to renovate an old school premises as panchayat ghar.
The panchayat had earlier moved a proposal to the comunidade for land for the panchayat project and found no favour. The villagers suggested that funds could be utilised to renovate the old school and be used as the panchayat.
