Mahadayi Prawah notified, to be based in Panaji
Panaji: The ministry of Jal Shakti has notified the Mahadayi Prawah or the Mhadei Water Management Authority to ensure fair distribution and prevent illegal diversion of water, and has authorised the establishment of its headquarters in Panaji.
“I extend my gratitude to the Union government for meeting one of our crucial demands and giving approval for the constitution and notifying Mahadayi Prawah, as well as for authorising the establishment of its headquarters in Panaji. This significant decision marks a major milestone in our collective efforts to safeguard Mother Mhadei,” chief minister Pramod Sawant said.
The Centre will make an initial contribution of Rs 5 crore for setting up and functioning of the authority, which shall be later reimbursed to the Centre by the authority after contributions are received from the party states.
All expenses of the authority (including salary and other expenses) shall be borne by state governments of Goa, Karnataka, and Maharashtra in equal shares.
The authority shall prepare and transmit to each of the party states, as early as possible, but not later than September 30 of each year, an annual report covering the activities of the authority for the preceding year.
The authority consists of the chairman, three full-time independent members, three part-time members, and three other members.
