Action against MLAs’ staff, media houses to be dropped
Thiruvananthapuram: The legislative secretariat is reliably learnt to have decided to close the proceedings initiated against some personal staff members of opposition MLAs as well as some media houses, in connection with the untoward incidents between the ruling front and the opposition in front of the speaker’s chamber, during the last assembly session.
It is learnt that the matter has been recommended for closure with a warning issued to all those who were served show-cause notices and is presently pending before the speaker for his nod.
The notices issued by the undersecretary of the legislature secretariat seeking explanation for capturing and circulating the visuals of protest in front of the speaker’s chamber were received by the staff members of MLAs M Vincent, T Siddique, K K Rema, M K Muneer, A P Anil Kumar, P K Basheer and Abid Hussein Thangal and journalists from three news channels.
The notices sought explanation regarding the circumstances under which the visuals were captured against rules from the high security area, where photography has been prohibited. It should be explained to the assembly secretary in writing within 15 days of receiving the memo. It added that if no explanation was given, further disciplinary action would be initiated against them.
The attempt by the watch and ward to forcefully remove the UDF MLAs who protested in front of the speaker’s chamber had led to a commotion between the MLAs and the watch and ward.
The situation further worsened after some ruling front ministers, MLAs and their staff members got involved physically and verbally. However, the cases registered by the Museum police against the MLAs and watch and ward additional chief marshal of the assembly in connection with the incident would continue.
